Where Electronic Fiberglass Cloth Is Used

Electronic grade cloth is the structural and dielectric backbone of copper clad laminate and prepreg. The style you choose follows from the board you are building.

01

Copper Clad Laminate

The base fabric for rigid CCL used in single-sided and double-sided boards. Styles 7628M, 7628L and 7630 are the standard choices because their weight and thickness align with conventional laminate presses.

Typical styles: 7628M · 7628L · 7630

02

Multilayer PCB

Prepreg reinforcement between inner layers. Thinner styles let you control overall stack height and dielectric spacing without adding layers.

Typical styles: 2116 · 1506 · 1080

03

HDI & High Layer Count

Where fine-line HDI and high layer counts push total thickness limits, ultra-thin 1080 keeps each dielectric layer thin enough to stay within tolerance.

Typical styles: 1080 · 2116

04

Industrial Laminates

Heavier cloth for mechanical strength and electrical insulation in industrial laminates, where the board carries load as well as current.

Typical styles: 7667 · 7630

Selection Logic

Reading the requirement backwards

Buyers usually arrive with a finished board specification. Working backwards from that to a cloth style takes three numbers.

Target board thickness

Divide the dielectric thickness you need by the number of prepreg layers, then pick the cloth whose finished thickness matches. This usually narrows the choice to one or two styles immediately.

Resin system and pick-up

Denser cloth holds a different resin fraction than open cloth. If your resin system is fixed, density and area weight constrain the style as much as thickness does.

Mechanical demand

Where the board will be handled heavily or carries structural load, warp and weft tensile strength become the deciding parameter rather than thinness.

Working Together

Send the board spec, not just the style number

If you tell us what the finished laminate has to achieve, we can advise on the cloth that gets you there — including where a non-standard weight or width would serve you better than a catalogue grade.

  • Finished board thickness and layer count
  • Resin system and target resin content
  • Mechanical or thermal requirements
  • Annual or per-order volume
  • Destination port and packing preference
